Who and what is trackseller

Trackseller is a venture by me. My name is Marc Muncke.I am 39 year old and living as a musician and programmer in vienna, austria.

I have released two EPs and one CD with my band villalog which also was available via some recordstores around the globe but still there remained a wish for me to reach a wider audience and be present in even the farest place possible.

So why not use the internet to do that.

I compared several available online music-stores and found they all do not fit my needs.

In most cases the online stores only make contracts with labels (record companies) and of the labels available, only the biggest ones.

Second the music presented in most online shops is available in a lossy compressed format and I wanted to have my music available for download with all the rich sound as it was recorded.

Third I was disappointed of how the existing online shops collect data like age etc. to grasp detailed profiles on musical taste of their customers.

The next point that disappointed me was that existing online stores use their own special download technique most of them combined with DRM (Digital Rights Management) that in some cases only allows very restricted use of the paid and downloaded files.

In 2004 I came to the point that the effort to sell my music online would be nearly the same if I created a open platform for everybody so I started to think about how this could be achieved.

In Summer 2004 I had the idea that a download of a file online could be done via payment when the filename is hidden by a provider and that was the start for trackseller.com as you see it today.

In march 2005 I started to program the site and I finished on the 24th of october 2005.

The technology is simple, cheap and reliable what makes it possible to offer the services of trackseller at no cost except a small provision of 11.5% for every sale.

Since summer 2006 I added an upload facility, what makes the service usable by a wider audience, but also included a small fee for that service because Housekeeping servers costs time and money today.

I wanted to create Trackseller artist and song registration as a free service what it still is today, when you select the FREE! do-it-yourself-product. But storage on the net costs and why not offer it by trackseller!

Besides the storage issue, artists are free to register and promote their stuff, only in case of a sale trackseller takes a small provision

Trackseller release 1.0 is online since 12.12.2005

Trackseller release 2.0 is online since 2.10.2005
